What a Mitchelton garden actually asks for
Mitchelton’s housing is largely older family homes on the kind of block that used to be standard in Brisbane: a decent size, and very often sloping.
The slope is usually what the garden has to solve. A backyard that falls away from the house leaves a steep patch of lawn nobody uses; retaining and terracing turn it into flat ground for kids, for entertaining and for planting.
Older gardens come with older problems too — tired lawns, overgrown beds, timber sleeper walls past their best and established trees that need working around. Deciding what stays is part of the design.
No two gardens the same
Designed for this block, not copied from the last one
Family yards tend to get built in pieces over years: a cubby here, a retaining wall there, a new lawn when the old one gives up. Duncan designs the whole block as one garden, then lets you build it in stages that fit together instead of fighting each other.
He draws it, costs it and builds it himself, so the levels set out on paper are the levels that end up in the ground — adjusted on site where the block demands it.
Budget
Before you call
This is design-led landscape construction, not a mowing round. There is no list price, because no two gardens are the same job — but the process is built so you know the number before you commit.
01
Budget first
Tell Duncan what you are comfortable investing. It is the fastest route to a concept that is actually buildable, and it is why he asks before he draws.
02
Then a concept
A unique landscape concept sketched on paper, with costings and an approximate time frame in writing. You see the garden and the number together.
03
Then you decide
Build only if you are happy with the paper. The work can be staged — plenty of gardens start as one wall, one path or one planted bed.

Yes. Mitchelton is inside the area Simply Intreeging covers across Brisbane and Moreton Bay. Duncan is based in Dayboro and travels for design and construction work. If you are not certain you are in range, call 0431 024 000 and ask.
Yes. Replacing tired timber walls with stone is common on older sloping blocks. Duncan holds a Queensland builder licence for structural landscaping (1161156); walls over about a metre, or walls carrying a load, generally need building approval — your certifier confirms the specifics.
There is no list price, because no two gardens are the same job. After the on-site consultation you receive a concept with costings and an approximate time frame in writing, before you commit to anything. Tell Duncan the budget you are comfortable with and the concept is designed to it — and the work can be staged.
Duncan Scott. The person who designs the garden is the person who builds it — not a salesperson, and not a subcontractor you have never met. He has been building gardens in south-east Queensland since 2000, and holds a Queensland builder licence for structural landscaping (1161156).
