How Duncan designs it
No two the same.
A lawn is the quiet part of a designed garden — the open ground that lets the stone, timber and planting around it stand out. It only does that job if it stays green, drains well and keeps a clean edge.
Duncan designs a lawn as a shape, not as whatever is left over once the beds are in. The curve of an edge, the space under a shade tree, the line where turf meets a travertine terrace — those are drawn on paper with the rest of the garden. Underneath, it is new under-turf soil, the right grass for the sun and the traffic, and programmable irrigation where it is needed. Where mowing is not wanted at all, synthetic turf is laid and edged properly so it does not look like a mat.
The lawns below are all different because the blocks were. A waterfront lawn with travertine steppers, a front lawn curving around a mature tree, a strip of synthetic turf beside a deck. Each was costed to the client’s budget and laid by the person who designed it.
